Descriptions:

Eckhart says that this is a very original question and that it is more important to ask an original question than to expect an original thought or original answer—because an original question is an original thought. When faced with a challenging situation, asking the right question is more important than expecting the right answer.

Eckhart Tolle is widely recognized as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world.

Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace, healing and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness – a global spiritual awakening.

Eckhart Tolle is the author of The Power of Now, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which has been translated into 32 languages and become one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.

In his most recent book, A New Earth, he shows how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world.

  1. Krishnamurti explains how thoughts are based on memory and memory on experiences, so they are limited. Thougt is the tool of ego. As humanity, being on Earth for thousands of years, is any new experience posible as Human Kind, in order to have a new thought?

  2. Hi Mr Eckhart I hope that you will be able to write power of now book for Kids too. You are awesome thank you so much. Much love here in this present moment

  3. Finally I met a true and great teacher in this life. I wish I can be soon knowing who I am and know what is really mean living in the present. Thank you teacher. ?

  4. Interesting choice of how to answer. He could have gone with the standard "Why are you striving? What happens if you let go of that need?", because the questioner's desire is clearly ego-based. Maybe that would have appeared too superficial and been less useful to the rest of the audience? ET is aging well. An old-school Zen master probably would have just thrown something at the guy or asked him "Who is this that wants to have an 'original thought'?"

  5. All Words comes out from a thought becoming the past so There are not original thought. Notice it carefully actually you Will know your own question instead. And All question come out s or processed by brain. The More questions the less it is at the state point of presence

  6. All the thoughts we have, are the thoughts that once entered our mind from external sources! So an original thought would be a mix of some of the thoughts we have! I think that we cannot create a thought out of nothing! So who thought of aliens for example? Or is it a mix of different thoughts? That was just a thought sitting in my mind… ok now come back to now! Dont overthink it!

  7. As we can see: You can also ask uniquely stupid questions (and give uniquely stupid answers).

It's not about reinventing the wheel every day, but about creating something independent from what you have learned and found. Van Gogh has not invented the canvas or the brush.

Being "original" at any cost is at best a value in itself in a world of unquenched inner emptiness and stimulus satiation.

  8. Really independent thoughts are unwanted here, otherwise they would not be censored and suppressed.

The supposedly great master and his female boss just want to hear permanently how "brilliant and unique" they are themselves…

Those who doubt the mumbo jumbo still live in the ego, in the pain body and in the collective unconscious, that is: on a lower level of karma.

  9. Inventors think original thoughts. Explorers come up with original thoughts. Sometimes, someone comes up with an original solution to a problem faced by humanity, such as an epidemic, etc. So yes, it is possible to be the first person who ever thought a certain thought. The problem is- society is based on conformity and usually it punishes original thinkers rather than rewards them. You can be the first person to ever come up with a certain question or an answer. Our thoughts usually pertain to our common human experience. If you were to think of other worlds and the possibility of other intelligent life forms in the universe, you might be able to imagine an existence that is totally different from ours, and therefore you could get some novel thoughts. We are conditioned to think certain thoughts, but if the mind is silent, an original thought can appear, or an insight can appear that is totally new to you, or even new to humanity as a whole.
Let us encourage children to express non conforming thoughts without fear, so that they may grow to be independent thinkers.

  10. It is very difficult for me to understand that a man who pretends to be awake puts advertisements on youtube. What is the purpose of Eckart Tolle with his videos? Make money or help men and women get up? Advertising is promoting a consumer society that pushes us to desire what we don't need and which increases pollution.

  11. After this answer ego will surely feel invited to cook up more so called original questions. Trying to be the best student of the class, trying to impress with a more original question than this one ?
The answer from a slightly different standpoint could also have been: there's no such thing as an original thought, all thoughts already exist. Otherwise we couldn't receive them. We are the receivers, not the creators of thoughts. The receiving happens at different frequencies. The frequency of our conditioning generates different thoughts than the frequency of love and compassion.

  12. Good morning, this is the BBC. Here is what we want you to think today….and because we say it in a nice South Eastern accent, with some words of more than 2 syllables, you will think you're frightfully clever….

  13. This takes it deeper. You are saying a person is not thinking their thoughts. It is being thought for them, which makes sense. My awareness has increased, where I don’t want certain thoughts to continue. My next question would be, “How do we control the thoughts we are thinking?” My thoughts may travel back to experiences in the past. I want only powerful, encouraging thoughts. I don’t want past decisions and experiences. Do I forcefully feed the brain, until that is all I have? I seriously desire this. Thank you.

  14. When Eckhart asked himself in what may have been his 'darkest hour' so many decades ago, who the self was that he could not live with anymore, that was surely an original thought/question…. leading to his overnight awakening. His teaching would not exist otherwise, and I am so grateful that it does.

  15. I’m pretty sure no one has ever thought of the specific idea of Nuclear powered self-heating wooden toilet seat made by the son of a carpenter in Australia with Chinese-American lineage.

  16. I think the question of original thought seems more like an academic one and why give importance to a thought? Being aware and present is d key and in that moment perhaps no thought. When one is aware , he or she is life connected to all and blossoming , so why should a thought have place in that moment? So original or recyled thought is ultimately a thought and perhaps futile to give importance to it.
