I disagree that we don't perceive energy fields. Sure it's not as blatant as a lion seeking to take your energy for itself. But I feel that we can perceive energy and its manifestations when we can be still. But the nature that we are members of keeps that awareness in the background until the need for it is there, despite our eagerness to to rush the process. Like when we view "lower" lifeforms as unsofistcated and rather simple, what if these organisms are in the long game and will reveal their latent abilities when the need is there. Nature likes to conserve itself so as to not flare too soon and find itself in a sort of torment where it sees a true and pure reality, yet is woefully unable to take advantage of the fundamental essence of things. Like a wicked prison that knowledge, if actualization occurs too early is something of a wasted shot. We use 3% of our DNA, if we use the full potential now, what exactly will we do with such awareness and power? Find clever ways to do more of the same? How much different are we than humanity of prehistory? Sure we have more stuff, we have eliminated and/or contained a good amount of threats to or way of life, civilization, and so on. But what is our fundamental and more sustainable revelations? We still are driven to compete, a bit nicer and "humane", but we are still prone to destructive relapses towards issues that we will seemingly have and come as a part of us. Maybe we will do great things for the various expressions of our basis genetic coding only to be retired after serving a purpose that our coding sees no reason for informing us about. We could be very well setting the stage for the next species to take up the mantle of assumed and perceived dominance(not tyranny) of life, this the code that governs us like a pilot governs a vehicle. Does the genetic code look upon us as a complex and robust vehicle as we tell ourselves rather constantly, or is our expression just another tool too be retired like the F-14 due to high maintenance, overly complex when a simpler tool and approach is more efficient, despite the beauty of the machinations. Seems like DNA may have a general enough awareness of energy and its limited lifespan to not waste much energy on things that are awesome to know about and speculate on, but in the grand picture, would move ever closer to entropy or using up all available energy on contemplation when the obvious goal is to reach a state where we can(as DNA in whatever form it takes up next, or just assigns a new role) actually make a proper us of such knowledge and awareness.
