The 144 only refers to the Israelites that will be saved and that can also be figurative. But in other scriptures people that will be saved will be like the sand. So many that we humans can't number them. But sadly more will be lost because they don't want to follow God. God doesn't want any to parish but to come to resentence. Acts 2:1 they were 120 including the apostles and Marry the mother of Jesus and his brother and sisters. They were waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit that Jesus told them to wait for. Read Acts 1. When the Holy Ghost came they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance. God caused some of them to understand what the 120 were saying and others didn't. They were praising God and giving Him glory. Others said they were drunk. But then Peter stood up and explained what was happening. He quoted the prophet Joel. Read it. Then he told how they killed Jesus the Prince of Pearce. They were convicted in their hearts and asked Peter what must they do. Then Peter said Repent be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for your sins.
