This video is dedicated to Lelia Janah, a social entrepreneur who employed thousands of desperately poor people in Africa and India in the fervent belief that jobs, not handouts, offered the best escape from poverty. She passed away on Jan.24th 2020 due to complications from Epithelioid Sarcoma. She was 37 years old.

Leila Janah (1982 – 2020)

Leila Janah was born on Oct. 9, 1982. Her father, Sahadev Chirayath, is a structural engineer; her mother, Martine Janah, held various jobs, including chopping onions at a Wendy’s restaurant, after immigrating to the United States. She was an American businesswoman and the founder and CEO of Sama and LXMI, two companies which share a common social mission to end global poverty by giving work to people in need. Sama’s 11,000 employees have worked under contracts with companies including Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Walmart, Getty Images, Glassdoor and Vulcan Capital.

  4. I have never met this woman in person, I didn't know about her till recently, but I am crying that such an amazing soul left this planet, I hope she is in eternal peace, thank you for the endless inspiration you gave the world while you were here.

  5. Thank you for creating and sharing this video. I think what Leila was phenomenal and what she accomplished in a relatively short amount of time is pretty incredible. She stayed true to her passions and doesn't seem like she ever gave up on something difficult. I wish there were more people like her – I'll forever admire the way she thought, her grit, and her unstoppable attitude. Much love <3
