Me and my dad too had a confrontation like this. I was forced to take science in high school while I wanted to take commerce. My parents want me to be an engineer, I was good in studies but I don't like science so I started hating it. And now here I am forced to do the think I hate for atleast 10-12 hrs every single day. I don't know whether things will ever get better.
I hope no one has to go through this, guys please choose the subject YOU WaaNT to study not what your parents want.

I remember when I was at medical school. One of my friends was pushed by his family to study medicine. He never wanted to. Sadly he never completed his course. He never completed his first term. He killed himself soon into the course. We were learning anatomy and we learned about the radial artery. I never forget seeing my friend saying to a lecturer "If you wanted to kill yourself would you cut across the radial artery or along it." The lecturer said "along it." That night my friend did just that and left a suicide note and a letter to his parents. His parents forced him so they could look good among their friends, make a lot of money in a dowry and keep the family image. Let's just say that they didn't look good among their friends then. I never forget interviewing one professor of medicine who said that only 1% of medical students fail exams in the university setting. However of that 1% being forced against their own will is the number one cause.

I'm not even confident enough to tell my feelings to my parents. I'm just useless. I regret my existence. I really wonder why God always take those with him who desperately want to live, but not those who are all ready to be totally vanished. I'm just tired of living. Being a doctor is such a beautiful thing and such a wonderful profession unless and until you are pushed into it, if you are becoming a doctor out of the love for the profession you r gonna do great, but if you are doing out of force or compulsion things r gonna be very hard
What's funny is I'm pushing myself to become a doctor. My parents never ever forced me to study in that field. So many people told me "you're destroying your life" or "why are you so willing to suffer, it's gonna take so long before you even become one or maybe you'll never be one". Guess what, I don't care. This is my goal and I know I can do it. It will take time but I'll be there with God's help.

My dream from childhood was always to be a heavy metal guitarist and I began learning how to play in my teens.
However, I read Medicine at university and have worked as a Doc for a few years. I am glad at least that I got to experience both of these areas even though they did conflict with each other. In order to do justice to my studies in Medicine, I had to relegate my passion for guitar playing into a hobby.
I do wonder at times if I should have just stuck to one over the other. If I pursued a musical career, that probably would have brought a whole load of different experiences in touring, recording, writing and even teaching. But then I never would have experienced what it meant to practice Medicine and vice versa. I do sometimes reflect on that at times.
This is pathetic. Parents living their dreams through their children and not letting them pursue their own goals and chase THEIR OWN dreams. Wake up, MOM AND DAD! LET YOUR KIDS PURSUE THEIR DREAMS!

The message to this video is so very very true when my mom was in her forties she went back to school and got her Nursing degree and despite being mentally disabled I am going back to school to get my ma certification at 38 you are never too old to go back to school.

This is actually, EXACTLY like my life. I’m obviously not in college or whatever but in like grade 9 I have to choose my future subjects (I’m in 8 btw) so I’ve decided that I’m gonna choose arts or become an interior designer maybe but something to do with arts. I’m pretty confident about my decision but as I live in a joint family 🙄🙄🙄 my family is like “choose medical blah blah blah become a doctor/dentist blah blah blah” cuz like all of my dad’s siblings are doctors or dentists or whatever (and my dad has like 5 siblings with him it’s 6 together) soooo yea there’s a lot of pressure! However my parents support me a lot and I feel like that’s seriously what matters the most 😇😇 Well, my sister wants to become a fashion designer when she grows up (she’s in 10th grade) so both of us are willing to take part in the field of arts. Plus my maternal aunt is also an artist and let me tell ya she’s the first one who stood up for herself and studied something different (cuz my maternal grandmother was like EVERYONE’S gonna go to med school, but she’s really really sweet tho) anyways, the point is this video is extremely relatable and if any of u are dealing with this, stand up for yourself and be what YOU wanna be cuz ur parents did what they wanted to do now YOU’RE studying, not them so pls do what u desire. My aunt and my mother are both teachers, and I want to be the same, my mother encourages me even though she knows how hard it is (she is very busy) however , my aunt says that I should become a doctor. I know that I want to be a teacher…. That is why I love my mother
