Would you choose to build a house on top of an unfinished foundation? Of course not. Why, then, do we rush students through education when they haven’t always grasped the basics? Yes, it’s complicated, but educator Sal Khan shares his plan to turn struggling students into scholars by helping them master concepts at their own pace.

  1. Khan academy's mission is to provide free and world class education to anyone anywhere by embracing the notion of mastery based learning .

Often times when we think of education in classrooms it's mostly associated with completing the syllabus but not making the students really feel passionate about that specific subject.

The entire system is like making you realise that if you are not good at that or this specific thing then you are not good for anything.

If we look at the condition in India , I would overtly articulate out this fact that in this country education is treated not as something that could help you become a better human being but it's rather treated as a medium or a route that can help you to get the best grades and respect and money

No one really is passionate about what they are doing . For instance , my friend is often times seen saying that "hey science and math are so beautiful subjects!
" and would even say " I am in love with this subject " . But I actually know they are just acting bogus .

And I can say this surely because when they were asked about the lives of any 5 physicists or the latest discoveries going on in science and technology they were literally speechless and tried to avoid the questions..

  2. The cynic in me wonders if the education system is deliberately designed to fail most students because the elites don't want to share the top of the pyramid.

  3. education system was built and designed not for the benefit of students but it was built and designed to create labourers for big corporations which are smart enough to handle the work and dumb enough not to questions.

  4. There is another essential fragment that is overlooked and that is to make children like this process of learning studying science mathematics requires rigorous practice and ample amount of time and effort and not everybody likes it We have resources today everybody can access internet and put time into it and become better how many of us actually do it we do not there must be a natural affinity towards learning devloped in early ages and everybody must study science upto a certain degree

  5. Over the years, I never thought about this until I actually hit a brick wall right about now. I strived towards perfection and good grades. But after all of that, I don't remember the information that may be useful to me in the future. It was not that I was lazy, since I studied hours on end. But it was the limitation of time. If I had more time to think about what I'm thinking rather than focus on just the assignment, I can excel beyond my capabilities. Even with online classes in college, there is still that time limit where you must finish this thing to move on. I don't get a chance to completely reflect on the material. I wish there was a Khan Academy version for not just college-level courses, but actual college courses that are even higher than that, such as tax or marketing. I wish this version had questions where I could truly practice and make mistakes. Test scores are useful, but they constrain my creativity of making mistakes and improving myself. Setting a prize or badge for mastery would be great as well, like an achievement stating you achieved this. With mastery, I could memorize the information longer and apply it better, if possible.

  6. soooooo, that's what changed the whole course of my education and career !!! Pre-algebra, 1st class I'd ever had a problem with, got a C, assumed that it couldn't be for me and OMG !!!! This was 30 years ago. I never took another algebra class, C wasn't acceptable. You've got to stay with the class. If you don't, you're forever behind . So then you feel not as confident, as good about yourself so I changed my whole mathematics schedule throughout high school and college. This makes so much sense AND it's not difficult to figure out. That bums me out and excites me at the same time. Yay for today's students. Yay for Khan Academy!!!
