You can't have 2 qualifiers in this sentence. For it to be sensical he needs an absolute/definitive first part of the statement to which the second part can contradict.
It sounded nice, but anybody can make something sound nice. The true skill or treasure of poetry (since he said it is a poem) is to make sense while simultaneously sounding good.
