Building a brand that promotes positivity and creates meaningful change can be just what is needed to stand out in today’s crowded marketplace. Skin is Skin is a perfect example.

Before starting the company, Magatte Wade saw an opportunity for entrepreneurship to influence culture. So she set out to determine how to build a brand with a purpose.

Thus, “the lip balm with a mission” was born, with the goal of reducing racial discrimination and biases. Putting an end to stereotypes is infused in everything the company does: from its branding to where materials are sourced.

Businesses have the power to become a force for social good in the world, and Magatte Wade is harnessing that power to leave her mark on society.

  1. As much as I love freethink, I respectfully disagree. I’ve never been a fan of conscious capitalism, and the reason is it assumes that capitalism itself always works but has some issues. I don’t like socialism either, but I believe they are other economic systems that are better than both. I would recommend your channel, as well as anyone interested, check out Open Source Ecology, Jacque Fresco and the Venus Project, distributism, and other forms of post-scarcity economics. We need a new economic system that incorporates lessons from the past with a vision for the future and not just washed up old ideas like capitalism and socialism. That doesn’t mean these ideas have nothing to teach us, but we can’t pretend they are the best just because we haven’t tried anything else. Also, if you like Andrew Yang I’d recommend you check out UBI and timebanking.

  2. I listened with an open mind. For me, capitalism is selling a product by making someone believe they need something you are selling. Needs of Society is their main concern they say, but in truth the bottoming is making $$$. So, those who believe they are doing some sort of "good" for the whole of society are fooling both themselves and those they are selling too. Say what you will…but in the end this is ultimately where they are all headed.

  3. So she only likes to invest in people that look like her, basically. Ok. She is just using the cheapest labor and it is smart, from Africa you can get cheap labor. Yet how many ''african american only'' businesses that separate themselves like this actually stay afloat by making a niche market? Smart people sell to everyone, not just 1 color and base their employees on 1 type also… it is almost laughable that some people like this do not realize their solution to racism is itself racist and separating themselves in groups.. think for yourself much? I mean honestly this channel is becoming ''SJW Cringe'', wasnt that proven a huge joke for the last 5 years and proven to be a nonthinking agenda?

  4. For people jumping to conclusion too fast, the lady wants that everyone treat every other person with respect. The product she sells has a brand that represents these values. The reason why she wants to manufacture these products in her home country is to give power to women in her home country, give them jobs and a status.

  5. Like with anything and everything else, all we can do it try! It's time for a more conscious society, why not conscious and ethical business practices? I"m for it!

  6. The Discrimination is against white people the hypocrisy is real they say people say they hate discrimination while flying a black power flag LOL if you generalize white people you probably think in binary terms. There are quite a few people leading the charge with zero clinical level sociology experience leading people down all manner of horrible paths! The fact is many of these micro to macro groups that are popular in Media and leading the charge are being used by people with a greater plan, it's kind of obvious at this point so continue on under the assumption that everyone is telling the truth on all sides is kind of ridiculous . Look at my life I was a white kid who grew up in the ghettos of Southern California during the gang era and I experienced racism with the threat of death almost on a daily basis trauma black and Mexican people. People that were close to me understood I was down for mine and wood show me respect don't get me wrong but when people hear that it helps because without contrast you will be heavy-handed and leaning in on issues. What people are really dealing with is Stigmata generalization and sociological maturity and coming of age what by former standards would be considered minority groups. I say it that way because I was a minority growing up. I am reading a few things on this topic you can check out my Facebook at BigRobsmusic . The fact is what is playing out in the media isn't but it appears to be on the surface, people being manipulated on an emotional level there are many people with background similar to my own working on deconstructing the American psyche and the underpinnings of what made this country great, including God and patriotism which is not a bad thing. Anyway God bless you and yours and remember if you're Christian We Are All One in Christ!

  7. When I want to get a lib balm, I get the cheapest lib balm. Everything she said is kinda irrelevant to most people and as much as I support capitalism, “conscious capitalism” is basically: please buy our products over others only because we say hip things.

  8. Magatte Wade, you rock!!! Love from Kenya, capitalism is the only we will help our communities, I mean, we Africans were capitalist in the pre-colonial times, until colonialism and more profoundly our founding fathers justified socialism as freedom only to appropriate wealth and limit our freedoms. But, we are rising now because of increasing economic freedom and capitalism!!

  9. “Most entrepreneurs start their businesses not to strike it rich but because there’s a problem they want to solve.”
LOL no, they wanna have a successful business and make lots of money. They see a market opportunity for a better product or service and they pounce. Activists make the worst entrepreneurs. Most of them are just cosplaying.

  10. I think Racism is very low , not completely gone but at very low but lately it seems like white people being targeted. I'm indian but i see discrimination against white folks too ,it doesn't mean all are saints, seems like media is agrivating issue and causing more damage to peaceful society
