At the time Netflix were mailing DVDs their competitor was Love Film who also mailed DVDs. I was a customer of both at the time when I lived in London. The reason why Netflix postal DVD service failed is that the movie selection was rubbish. Love Film had a far better selection. Love Film was eventually acquired by Amazon where at least Netflix remained independent. But Netflix had an awful selection at the time 🙂
