Descriptions:

For anyone who believes poetry is stuffy or elitist, Amanda Gorman — the youngest inaugural poet in US history — has some characteristically well-chosen words. Poetry is for everyone, she says, and at its core it’s all about connection and collaboration. In this fierce talk and performance, she explains why poetry is inherently political, pays homage to her honorary ancestors and stresses the value of speaking out despite your fears. “Poetry has never been the language of barriers,” Gorman says. “It’s always been the language of bridges.”

  1. And not allowing white people to professionally translate your work even after you select them is a racist way to use your voice. Way to waste 15 minutes of fame.

  2. I just learned that the approved Spanish translator of her work is now to be replaced by someone who matches Gorman's 'profile'. So a Spaniard won't be allowed to translate English work for Spaniards now unless they check all the boxes. Hmmm. And this was AFTER the same exact thing happened in the Netherlands to someone there too! Oh, I am so done with this little flash in the pan. Even Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would be against this nonsense. THIS IS RACISM, DO NOT SUPPORT IT.

  3. Hi: I only have a minute or two right now. So, HERE IS YOUR [ONE] VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION — ONE OF MANY — RIGHT NOW: 'WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT BEING A [WOMAN] THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED AND ARE WILLING TO ENLIGHTENED US ALL WITH? I'm called Morris L. Walton [AND SMILES TO YOU TOO!!! LOL.] Happy International Woman's Day, OK! HAVE FUN AND GOD BLESS YOU! 03-13-2021…[WHAT SAY YOU?] [UNTO ME?] BYE.

  4. Now when she gets these calls…
Person: Hey we want you to speak, but don't make it political.
Her: Thank you for considering me, but could you do me a small favor and go onto Youtube and look up my Ted talk. Thanks, bye.
