I agree with most everything you say. I was broke and at 50 was diagnosed with class IV colon cancer ( a death sentence ). I stopped drinking and started exercising, quit chemo after 6 months. The doctors pretty much told me one year. I stared drawing my SSD and moved to Thailand. I am 68 now and for the past years I have lived a life only few could dream about. I did not die obviously.
I have not had a debt since I was 50, so debt free. I now have about 180K invested and now am drawing the dividends. I am single. Unless you want to live the life oa a millionaire you don't need that much money to live on. I now help out when I can, and have moved back to the US (temporarily), I have a small house. I bought the house and paid cash for it when I was 50. Selling a small place I had so i could afford to pay this off in cash. I let a woman live in my home rent free for years as long as she paid the taxes. It worked out very good and she saved for retirement since she did not have to pay rent.
The main take away is be debt free, no matter how little money you make. I cannot tell you how being debt free and living abroad has opened my eyes.

Newly married and I'm definitely the spender (but also have a vision to retire a millionaire). Husband is a saver. Sitting to do our first budget together and he has all these pockets of money laid around "just in case" and i say we need to name the accounts or else I will spend every dime and not think twice about it. 🤣🤣 I love to spend money and know we need to save (and do) but I DO NOT enjoy it, Dave.

bank of america are biggest liars-if they harass you for payment you have the right to tell them no more phone calls-& if those lying crooks sue you for alleged non payment of credit card tell them you want all info deleted from files of credit bureaus if you pay settlement of no more than half-pay for deletion-get it in writing if they agree-see how quick those crooks drop lawsuit against you-those lying crooks want me to pay fraud charges
as a dirty communist.. it would be nice if that money was spread 0.5 million $ house for every person ..
